Supporting sustainable practices in the games industry brings together industry experts and sustainability researchers to review the latest data and innovations in sustainable game development practices from across Europe.
The discussion panel is part of Nordic Game 2025, a dynamic showcase of games industry innovators that includes a variety of talks and workshops over three days.
This panel will take place on Wed 21st May, at 5pm local time, the Gallerian auditorium.
Our panel discussion will be led by Elina Tyynelä, who is the Sustainability Coordinator at Neogames Finland and researcher for STRATEGIES ‘materials and emissions’ work (work package 3), and co-author of our forthcoming report comparing currently-available emissions accounting tools for the game industries.
This panel will focus on ways to support sustainable practices in the game industry. A key goal of the panel will be to share knowledge about sustainability in the games industry from a range of perspectives (especially those working within games associations, or with policy-makers).
The panel will also introduce insights from the first reports of the STRATEGIES project, which examines industry-wide challenges and opportunities for sustainability.
The discussion will emphasize the importance of collaborative action between SMEs, policymakers, and larger corporations to drive systemic change. The panellists will highlight the role of SMEs as innovators in sustainability while addressing the need for better policy frameworks and investment strategies that align with business realities.
In addition, the panel will seek to engage the developer community in the ongoing surveys being carried out as part of STRATEGIES, which will be launched at the time of the conference. By participating in these surveys, developers, investors, and policymakers can contribute to shaping future policies and business strategies that support sustainable transitions in the industry.
The panellists include Dr Fiona Raje (Researcher at Manchester Metropolitan University and for STRATEGIES), Thierry Baujard (Co-founder, Spielfabrique and Policy Researcher for STRATEGIES), Joni Lappalainen (CEO, Dreamloop Games), Mathilde Yagoubi-Thery (Managing Director for Game Only) and Marléne Tamlin (Head of Sustainability, Swedish Game Industry).
